When coming into contact with units, the mameluke will generally win. It is especially good against cavalry units with a huge bonus. Strong also against infantry. Little pierce armour so quite vulnerable to archers but when adjacent to the enemy archers, the mameluke will kill the archers quite fast also. Expensive gold wise but a very strong unit.
