The Man-At-Arms is the fist upgrade to the Militia. They are used mainly in Drush + Flush strategies, especially by Aztecs, Celts, Mayans and Goths. Being so easily countered by Archers due to their lack of speed and higher cost, they are seldom used as the bulk of a Feudal Age army.
